Tales of the Earth: The Dinosauria Collection
This collection celebrates the three dinosaur species referenced by palaeontologist Richard Owen in 1842 when he first introduced the term “dinosaur.” These species — Megalosaurus, Hylaeosaurus, and Iguanodon — played a pivotal role in shaping our understanding of prehistoric life.
Iguanodon
The Iguanodon roamed the Earth approximately 125 million years ago. A herbivorous dinosaur, it had the unique ability to walk on both two and four limbs. Discovered by palaeontologist Gideon Mantell in 1825, it was initially named Iguana-saurus before being renamed Iguanodon, meaning “iguana tooth.”
Obverse
The obverse features the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by Jody Clark.
Reverse
The reverse design showcases the Iguanodon in vivid colour, accompanied by an inscribed title.
